cease & desist

cease and desist for web.JPG

To make a new bottle from recycled  glass uses 60-70% of the energy required to make a brand new bottle from scratch. Whilst that’s a saving of 30-40%, it’s still a great deal of resource deployed to remake something which already existed – in fact, reusing an existing glass bottle over an estimated lifespan of 25 uses is an energy reduction of up to 95%.

Manufacturers who choose to present their product in a container subject to protected intellectual property, such as those used in this, the cease and desist series, are effectively taking a stance that the container is, considering they are never reused in normal practice, single use only.

These containers are nearly all made from flint (colourless) glass and can therefore themselves never be made from recycled glass. So far we’ve had Coca-Cola Corp. and now Suntory. We don’t feel to use resources in this way is acceptable any longer, so we take this little position with the expectation of a short letter.

The image above is the first four years. Maybe there will be more.

These are never put on general online release. They are only ever sold through direct sales. If you can find them...
